Improving teacher quality and increasing the number of certified
teachers in Hawaii are two important issues that greatly affect
the future advancement of the educational system. Representatives
from the Education Commission of the States, Kay McClenney and
Michael Allen, will discuss issues related to quality-teaching
reforms at the national level. Also, Derek Minakami and Maryann
Joseph, the first of Hawaii's teachers to be certified by the
National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), will
give an overview of their experiences throughout the NBPTS
certification process.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services
to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language
interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for
the disabled), please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior
to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder. A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the
measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for
shared use by members of the public.
